What the hell...

So I finally decided - what the hell - and downloaded Media Player 10.. just to see what it was.

Experiences:
- Fast loading
- WAY TO MUCH CLUTTER in the Gui.. It may look nice, but it does'nt look efficient.
playing a mp3 should'nt take THAT MUCH space.. Yes, I know you can use the "mini ui" and "skins", but it still takes up too much room, unless you want to remove all the features. Winamp 5.x takes almost no room and is faster. And it 'looks' cleaner as well (skin).

But.. Winamp == AOL. WMP10 == Microsoft... Maybe I should go back to XMPLAY instead, it plays .mod files a lot better than the two others (if they even play them).

Anyway... I decided to let WMP10 "make a music library".. I thought. To bad it decided to add .wav files associated with games as well.. so now I am watching it make a music library of 40.000 files.. (!!). I wonder if it will crash. .. or when.

Oh yea, watched Bourne Supremacy today. Good movie. REsident Evil Apocalypse was NOT very good.

More fun, WMP10 lets you make a library of music, video and whatever. To bad I set it to search everything.
After one hour i had to terminate the app, since it had hung at 98% and 38.000 files for most of the time...
And it did it AGAIN! just now.
Not to mention it used around 300-400MB of memory...

Personally I started using Media Player for the Radio stations. I think it's a heck of a lot better than Lanch, less commercials and less annoying interuptions. I noticed the major difference between 9 and 10 is now it doesn't launch a new browser when you want to have a new radio station. It used to do that and really annoy me. The selection and variety of stations are nice.

Have'nt tried the radio stations yet myself, but maybe I should have a look. Have had some trouble with bandwidth so streaming audio has'nt really been a viable option for me, but ill try it out shortly. I am at least happy to see that WMP10 has'nt deleted all my mp3s. (But if it did, i doubt I would notice since I only listen to a few of them).

Some options I found to my liking in WMP10 are the statistics, that show you what music you listen to at the time of day, and how often you listen to them, and all the ratings you could give the songs. These stats I am sure would be nice for advertisers to get a hold of, though.

I've disabled all the internet/browser thingies I found in WMP10.. since I did'nt want it to 'go out there'. But I guess you need to enable some of those options to get the Radio/Media catalogue etc (Where you select the radio station to listen to?).

Adverts annoy me as well... if they only made them funny, like in GTA3 it could fit in nicely with a good radio station.

(Recomended radio stations: Smoothjazz and Digitally Imported.

I was a big fan of WMP 9 and used it pretty much exclusively. Then 10 came out and I don't care for the interface at all. I think 9 looked much better. I like the library management, but am so anal that I keep my library organized meticulously as it is.

I have now discovered the joy that is foobar2000. Low resource use, great sound quality, and customizable out the wazoo. No radio, so I still have iTunes, WMP 10 and Winamp for that, but to play my files foobar is king.

Foobar2000.. i'll check it out, thanks.

Yea, I feel WMP10 is a bit on the bloated side.. and slow. So i've returned to WInamp5 and XMPlay. (Xmplay is great, 240k, excelent for .mod and .s3m)
